A new twist on an old tradition, Building Business Connections is the new format for the Alliance’s premiere networking program. Blending networking, resources and inspiration, Building Business Connections encourages lively discussion, focused connection-building conversations and educational opportunities to help attendees make new business connections, build their business and prosper.

SUMMA ACADEMY is where Natural Learning Relationships is brought directly to a diverse student body (age 5-14) and their families in an educational environment. The academy provides learning that nurtures the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual development of its students with active participation from their families. Maximize Your Membership gives all Alliance Members and prospective Members an opportunity to learn about the many benefits of membership and to connect with potential new customers and clients.

OHSU’s Dr. Kent Thornburg, Ph.D. is an internationally renowned expert on the link between the American diet and obesity, heart disease and diabetes. As the Interim Director of the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness, Dr. Thornburg uses food as a prescription for preventative treatment, inspiring people of all ages to take immediate action to improve their own health and the health of their family.

Additionally, he is the Professor and Associate Chief for Research in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and director of the Heart and Research Center at OHSU. Dr. Thornburg is nationally known for his research suggesting that most chronic diseases are related to indicators of nutrition before birth.

The Citizen Crime Commission is celebrating 25 years of advocating for business as a neutral and essential voice on crime and public safety. Please join us for a special 25^th Anniversary Luncheon presenting the compelling speaker and author, Pete Earley. A former investigative journalist for the Washington Post, Earley tells the story of his own family’s journey into the mental health system and his subsequent investigation involving the mentally ill in the criminal justice system in “CRAZY: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness”. The Citizens Crime Commission will present the Northwest Heroes Award to local first responders to recognize, thank and honor them for their actions in service to our community.

About Pete Earley
Pete Earley is the author of CRAZY: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness, which was one of two finalists for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. His book tells two stories. The first is his struggle to get his son help after he develops a severe mental illness. The second story is based on nine months that Mr. Earley spent inside the Miami Dade County jail where he followed persons with mental disorders through the criminal justice system and out into the streets to see what happened to them. His book has won awards from the American Psychiatric Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Mental Health America.

Mr. Earley has testified twice before the U.S. Congress about the need for mental health reform and is a regular contributor to USA Today and The Washington Post on mental health matters.
