PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Business Alliance welcomes David Thompson as the new vice president of membership and small business. He will also serve as the association’s general counsel. David joins the Alliance from Bullard Smith Jernstedt Wilson, where he practiced employment and labor law, counseling public and private employers on a range of issues.
“David’s experience working with a variety of employers in the private sector make him an excellent candidate for this position,” said Sandra McDonough, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance. “His extensive community involvement really set him apart and we are excited to have him on our team.”
As the Alliance’s new head of membership, David will be focused on growing Alliance membership as well as engaging current members. He will also be the lead Alliance staff member working on small business issues.
While at Bullard, David counseled employers on issues including labor, contract administration, employee relations, discipline and discharge, workplace training seminars, and risk compliance. Actively involved in the community, David currently serves on the Santa Clara University board of regents, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps board of directors, the Portland/Vancouver Connector Project, and the Portland Parks Foundation board of directors. He also supports a number of other nonprofits including the Morrison Child and Family Services, Friends of the Children, Black Parent Initiative, Community Transitional School, Jesuit High School and St. Francis of Assisi Dining Hall.
David holds a bachelor’s degree in psychobiology and Spanish from Santa Clara University, a juris doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law and will graduate in June with a master’s of business administration from University of Oregon.
